چکیده

Biometric recognition is still a very difficult task in realworld scenarios wherein unforeseen changes in degradations factors like noise, occlusion, blurriness and illumination can drastically affect the extracted features from the biometric signals. Very recently Haar-like rectangular features which have usually been used for object detection were introduced for biometric recognition resulting in systems that are robust against most of the mentioned degradations [9]. The problem with these features is that one can define many different such features for a given biometric signal and it is not clear whether all of these features are required for the actual recognition or not. This is exactly what we are dealing with in this paper: How can an initial set of Haar-like rectangular features, that have been used for biometric recognition, be reduced to a set of most influential features? This paper proposes total sensitivity analysis about the mean for this purpose for two different biometric traits, iris and face. Experimental results on multiple public databases show the superiority of the proposed system, using the found influential features, compared to state-of-the-art biometric recognition systems.

Facial Feature Detection Using Haar Classifiers*

Viola and Jones [9] introduced a method to accurately and rapidly detect faces within an image. This technique can be adapted to accurately detect facial features. However, the area of the image being analyzed for a facial feature needs to be regionalized to the location with the highest probability of containing the feature. By regionalizing the detection area, false positives are eliminated a...

Bayesian Network Based Reparameterization of Haar-like Feature

Object detection using Haar-like features is formulated as a maximum likelihood estimation. Object features are described by an arbitrary Bayesian Network (BN) of Haar-like features. We proposed variable translation techniques transform the BN into the likelihood for the object detection. The likelihood is a BN which includes a node that represents the object’s position, angle and scale. The ob...

Parallel Processing for Multi Face Detection and Recognition

In this paper, a robust approach for real time face recognition where the images come from live video is proposed. To improve the algorithmic efficiency of face detection, we combine the eigenface method using Haar-like features to detect both of eyes and face, and Robert cross edge detector to locate the human face position. Robert Cross uses the integral image representation and simple rectan...
